How About ICE?

This article is reprinted from the Speak Out Now newsletter for BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), a rapid transit rail system in the San Francisco Bay Area – October 27, 2025

This isn’t about ice on the rails. It’s about the possibility of ICE – those unidentifiable, heavily armed, masked men, invading BART stations. ICE has been snatching people from their cars, off the streets, at their children’s schools and other public places.

ICE agents and other armed forces have been sent to cities that the Trump regime seems to think have the wrong mayors and the wrong people living there. People in cities that have been invaded have mobilized to oppose ICE. And some politicians have opposed troops and ICE in their cities. Most of the Bay Area is made up of sanctuary cities and towns and many workplaces have protocols if ICE shows up.

What about BART? If ICE forces invade a station, what protection do passengers have? What are workers supposed to do? This should not be left up to each worker to decide what to do in the moment. Many public workplaces have procedures and safe places. What about BART?
