Open the Churches? Apparently Trump Doesn’t Care if You Die (As Long as You Vote For Him)

Trump released a statement saying that “governors need to do the right thing and allow these very important essential places of faith to open right now, for this weekend.” What an irresponsible statement! COVID-19 doesn’t care if you’re in an office, school, church, mosque or synagogue; it will spread. For congregations to worship as if there weren’t a pandemic raging would be incredibly irresponsible.

Luckily for Trump, his statement has no power. Governors retain the right to limit public gatherings. But this is exactly what he wants. He can look like a hero for “defending the right to worship” without consequences. But we know, even if his demand to open the churches had power, he would do it just to get the votes. Look at what his right-wing friends have done in Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin. Apparently, Trump doesn’t care if you die as long as you vote for him first.
