International Solidarity

March 30, 2023, from the Étincelle fraction of the New Anticapitalist Party (NPA) in France. Translated from French.

The banner in the photo reads: “The strike continues from France to Italy… Strike!”

In several countries: Greece, Germany, Italy… rallies have been organized in front of French embassies and consulates to support the struggle of French workers against the pension reform [which raises the age of retirement from 62 to 64]. In Italy, the [rank-and-file workers’] union, Confederazione dei Comitati di Base (Cobas), called for a one-hour strike on March 28 “in solidarity with the French struggles, and to build a united European class front.” In many companies, mainly in logistics, where this union has a significant presence, workers stopped, carrying signs affirming their support for their Central European class brothers and sisters.

Rally in Athens, Greece

It is a signal, certainly symbolic, but at the same time unequivocal, showing that, beyond the borders, the workers have the same enemies and the same interests to defend. It is also a demonstration that there is a grouping in the working class in Europe, still a minority, but one that must be counted on. This part of the working class is not ready to give in to the climate of resignation and submission to the bosses, fed by the leaderships of the trade union confederations.
