The environmental crisis created by this system of production is so overwhelming that it can seem we only have the choice to deny or ignore what is happening or accept a fatalistic view that we are doomed. Altieri and Dr. Clara Inés Nicholls, both currently teaching and conducting research at UC Berkeley, have been studying the challenges involved in food production in environments undergoing the stresses of climate change.
